On Monday, April 29, 2019, the top 5% of the Rio Rico High School 2019 graduating seniors and their invited “influential educators” received honors at the 8th Annual Excellence in Education Banquet sponsored by the Friends of the SCVUSD No. 35 Foundation. The event was at the Tubac Golf Resort.

The fifteen students received honors for their educational achievements and, in turn, they each honored the educator making the biggest impact on their academic success.

Melisa Lunderville, foundation president, and Karen Woodford, president-elect, were the hosts for the evening.

The keynote speaker was the Honorable Thomas Fink, presiding Santa Cruz County Judge. He directed his comments to the influential educators and students. In particular, his comments focused on the rate of change, especially technologically, and how these changes could impact the future.

Students received a certificate of achievement and a $500 scholarship. The evening concluded with a video recording of each student explaining why they chose their guest teacher as the educator that made the biggest impact in their educational lives.
